G4S the worst company of the year: Vote Now

War on Want/ Samidoun.

G4S is best known for its Olympics shambles. But did you know that G4S is also the world’s largest private military and security company?

It is complicit in Israel’s occupation of Palestine and profits from conflict and insecurity around the world.

G4S has been shortlisted for the Public Eye People’s Award 2013, the infamous worst company of the year awards.
This is the ‘name and shame’ award no company wants to win. By voting for G4S you will help us to expose this company’s damning track record.

Why You Should Vote for G4S

G4S is complicit in Israel’s occupation of Palestine

G4S provides security systems and other services for major Israeli prisons. Human rights organisations have documented systematic torture and ill treatment of Palestinian prisoners, including child prisoners in Israel’s prison system.

G4S also provides equipment and services to Israeli checkpoints and settlements in the West Bank that form part of the route of Israel’s illegal Wall, as well as to the terminals isolating the occupied and besieged Gaza.

The death of Jimmy Mubenga

In the UK, G4S continues to receive contracts for public services including policing, asylum, housing and deportation oversight. In October 2010 Jimmy Mubenga died during his forcible deportation by G4S to Angola. But in July 2012 the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute G4S or its security guards for his death. In response to the decision, Jimmy Mubenga’s wife stated: “We can’t understand why the officers and G4S are not answerable to the law as we or any other member of the public would be.”

G4S is profiting from war and conflict

G4S CEO Nick Buckles has said that high risk environments offer “big opportunities” for the company. G4S owns ArmorGroup, the UK government’s favourite private military and security contractor, which has come under fire for its actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. ArmorGroup was the focus of a US Senate inquiry in 2010, alleging the company “relied on a series of warlords to provide armed men” in Afghanistan who were engaged in murder and bribery. G4S consistently puts profit before people. Let’s send a strong message that we want to stop companies making a killing from war.
