AJAMI – Screening at Hyde Park Picture House, Aug 30

Ajami is a neighbourhood in Jaffa, an ancient port town which exists in the shadows of Tel-Aviv. What makes this neighbour stand out is the fact that there Jews, Arabs, Christians and Palestinians live side by side. Not in harmony but in a distilled microcosm representational of the regions grander divisions. This brave and fascinating piece follows an ensemble cast as they battle racial and religious pressures as well as drugs, gang-warfare in an effort not just to survive but to truly live.
