Action Alert – Complain to the BBC – Death in the Med

Last night, the BBC broadcast a Panorama programme entitled ‘Death on the Med’.

It claimed to reveal ‘what really happened’ when Israeli commandoes boarded the Mavi Marmara on 31 May 2010.

The programme was extremely biased, portraying the activists on board as violent terrorists who set out to kill Israeli soldiers. More >

Dear Mr [name removed]

Thank you for your e-mail.

I understand you were unhappy with the BBC coverage of the Israeli armed forces attack on the Gaza ‘Freedom Flotilla’ as you felt it was biased against Israel.

The BBC places very high importance on achieving impartiality in its coverage of the Middle East and all other issues and strongly rejects allegations of bias for or against either Israel or the Palestinians. More >

Please TAKE ACTION and DEMAND that the United Nations launch an
independent investigation into the Israeli attack against unarmed relief

Testimony from passengers aboard the Freedom Flotilla

Haneen Zuabi
Member of Parliament, Israeli Knesset
“Israel had days to plan this military operation. They wanted many deaths
to terrorise us and to send a message that no future aid convoys should
try to break the siege of Gaza.”

Sarah Colborne
Director of campaigns and operations, PSC, United Kingdom
“I couldn’t even count the amount of ships that were in the water. It was
literally bristling with ships, helicopters and gunfire. It was horrific,
absolutely horrific. …Israeli forces handcuffed members of the
activists’ medical team who were sent to help treat the injured. It was
terrifying…If you talked they pointed a gun at you. …We wrote a sign
in Hebrew saying, ‘SOS! Need medical assistance. People are dying. Urgent’
Hanin Zoabi, who’s a Knesset member, an Israeli Knesset member, took that
sign to the front-to the back of the boat, where the soldiers were
pointing at her. They ordered her to go back.”

Henning Mankell
Bestselling Swedish crime author
“It was an act of piracy. We were actually kidnapped. …On the ship I was
on, they found one weapon: my razor. And they actually came up and showed
it off, my razor, so you see what level this was at.”

Professor Norman Paech
Member of Parliament (ret.), Germany
“We had not prepared in any way to fight. We didn’t even consider it
because we knew very well that we would have absolutely no chance against
soldiers like this. …The Israeli government justifies the raid because
they were attacked. This is absolutely not the case.”

Annette Groth
Member of Parliament, Germany
“It was like war. They had guns, taser weapons, some type of tear gas and
other weaponry, compared to two-and-a-half wooden sticks we had between
us. [For Israel] to talk of self-defence is ridiculous. …The scandal is
that we have to fight the Israeli images only with words. The Israelis
confiscated all the activists’ cameras, computers, and mobile phones.”

Iara Lee
Brazilian Filmmaker (based in San Francisco)
“(The attack) was a surprise, because it happened in the middle of the
night, in the darkness, in international waters, because we knew there
would be a confrontation but not in international waters. Their first
tactic was to cut all of our satellite communications and then they
attacked. All I witnessed first hand was the shooting. They came on board
and started shooting at people. …We expected them to shoot people in the
legs, to shoot in the air, just to scare people, but they were direct.
Some of them shot in the passengers’ heads. Many people were murdered – it
was unimaginable.”

Jamal El-Shayyal
Journalist from Al Jazeera
“…as this attack started I was on the top deck and within just a few
minutes there were live shots being fired from above the ship from above
from where the helicopters were. The first shots that were fired were some
sort of sound grenades. There was some tear gas that was fired as well as
rubber coated steel bullets. They were fired initially and the live
bullets came roughly about five minutes after that, after those initial
shots were fired.

“There was definitely fire from the air because one of the people who was
killed was clearly shot from above. He was…the bullet targeted him at
the top of his head. There was also fire coming from the sea as well. Most
of the fire initially from the sea was tear gas canisters and sound
grenades. But then it became live fire. There is no doubt from what I saw
that live ammunition was fired before any Israeli soldier was on deck.

“[From the top deck] you could almost see the soldiers pointing their guns
down through some sort of hole or compartment at the bottom side of the
helicopter, firing almost indiscriminately without even looking where they
were firing and those bullets were definitely live bullets. There was a
Knesset member who approached the Israeli soldiers saying we have injured,
she was saying they have injured people, please come and take them. Yet
the Israelis refused. Three hours later all three of those people that
were injured ended up dying on the spot because no one came to take them.”

Trade Unions unequivocally condemn Gaza Flotilla attacks – NUS bucks the trend

The trade union movement has rallied round in fervent support of the Palestinian cause. Yesterday, Unison joined Unite and the TUC in issuing a strongly worded condemnation of Israel’s attack on the Mavi Marmara and calling for an immediate end to the siege of Gaza.

Alongside these unions, a number of others including the CWU and the PCS have been working hard to build Saturday’s national demonstration, which will be addressed by Keith Sonnet, Deputy General Secretary of Unison, and Sally Hunt, speaking on behalf of the TUC.

Unfortunately, the NUS has bucked this trend. Its statement failed to condemn the attack or demand an end to the siege of Gaza, and requests only an Israeli-led investigation into the incident rather than the independent and impartial enquiry called for by the UN Security Council.

Student PSC is calling on students to email the NUS President, Wes Streeting, and NUS President-Elect, Aaron Porter, demanding that they condemn Israel’s killing of civilians on a humanitarian mission, call for an immediate end to the siege on Gaza, and support Saturday’s demonstration.

Call for Action: Global Day to Break Israeli Siege

http://www.breaksiege.com/call-for-action-global-day-to-break-israeli-siege/

Today we watched with horror as Israel committed its massacre against the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza murdering 19 unarmed civilians and leaving over 50 injured. The peaceful Flotilla carrying over 10,000 tones of humanitarian aid to Gaza and over 700 pro-Palestinian activists was attacked by Israeli Navy forces using live ammunition, teargas, grenades…etc.

The Israeli apartheid state has again acted in full impunity against international law and needs to be held accountable for the murder of unarmed civilians at sea and illegal barbaric piracy of civilian vessels in international water carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza.

In memory of the brave men and women who lost their lives on the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, today we are calling all free citizens and people of conscience around the world to a Global Day of Action to carry forward Freedom Flotilla’s cause of breaking the Israeli siege of Gaza.

Let’s mark Saturday, 5th June 2010 as Global Day to Break Israeli Siege with protests and demonstrations in front of Israeli embassies and consulates all over the world. We call on you to join us on this day to demand in a global united voice, from our governments to: More >

MPACUK Action Alert: What You Can Do About The Flotilla Attack

MPACUK.

Just 50 complaints can stop the BBC’s biased reporting on the Israeli Army’s attacks on the unarmed civilians in the Freedom Flotilla.

Throughout this entire week when the Flotilla has been getting closer to Gaza, despite the numerous threats by the Israelis, the mainstream media (except the Guardian) in this country have given it barely any air time at all.

Just three simple actions by you can ensure that the crimes being committed by Israel are reported accurately:

  1. Call the BBC on 0370-010-0222 (then choose ‘Option 1′ and then ‘Option 3′) to ask why they are being biased in their report when it is clear that the Freedom Flotilla has unarmed civilians and that the Israeli Army is the aggressor. Please include the following in your complaint: More >

Please petition to save the demolition of Bethlehem Tent of Nations project

Dear Friends of Tent of Nations all over the world,

Today at 2.00 pm 27/5 , 2 officers from the Israeli Civil Administration guarded by Israeli soldiers came to our farm and gave us NINE demolishing orders for nine ( structures) we built in the last years without a building permit from the Israeli Military Authority. The demolishing orders are for: tents,   animals shelters, metal roof in front of both  old houses, the restrooms (Shelters) , a water cistern, a metal container and 2 underground renovated cave structures. One officer was writing the demolishing orders and the other was taking pictures with two cameras, Israeli soldiers were following them everywhere and pointing their guns on us.

The demolishing orders were written in  Hebrew and I refused to sign receiving them.  We have 3 days only to react against those demolishing orders. The timing for delivering the demolishing orders was plant properly and purposely on Thursday, in order to make it difficult for us to try to stop those orders by the Israeli  court within 3 days, because of the Jewish weekend (Friday and Saturday). The idea is to make it impossible for us to act quickly.  I  contacted our Lawyer and he will write an opposition and send it to the military court on Sunday morning. We hope to get a paper from the court through our Lawyer on Sunday morning to stop the demolishing orders.

We would like to ask you to be prepared and alert for actions, if anything might happen. We will keep you updated and will guide you for actions  but please forward this E-mail to your friends.

PLEASE be prepared for actions… Thank you for all your solidarity and support.

They are trying to destroy our spirit, but we are determined to resist and overcome the Evil  with GOOD and justice will prevail.

Freedom Flotilla, the Media Blackout and the War for Gaza

MPACUK.

Flotilla

The freedom flotilla, believe it or not, can be described (if it gains momentum) as one of the biggest threats to Israel it has ever faced.

It is in short a political and humanitarian move by those who are openly standing up against the barbarity of the world’s last apartheid state.

The BBC, Sky and the most of the mainstream media channels (bar the Guardian) have ensured it gets limited coverage. It’s not surprising, since the corporate media know that this is something far bigger than they ever wanted against Israel. It is nothing short of a movement for freedom that is galvanising the world’s activists.

Every single political act to stop oppression anywhere is an act of Jihad and a struggle for freedom. It is sad that Muslims in the main are more interested in staying out of it than being part of it, allowing non-Muslims to carry the torch while they busy themselves in minor rituals.

Action Alert:

Call the BBC and SKY and ask them why there has been no coverage of the Freedom Flotilla which has 28 British on board and is being threatened by Israel. Contact them on BBC
02086249111 and SKY 02077053000.

STOP THE JNF – STOP GREENWASHING APARTHEID!

Call for an international campaign to Stop the Jewish National Fund
The Jewish National Fund (JNF) was instrumental in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in the 1948 Nakba, and continues to play a central role in maintaining Israel’s regime of apartheid. The JNF provided political, financial and intelligence support for the Zionist forces in their conquest, massacres and ethnic cleansing operations that characterized the 1948-49 war and the Palestinian Nakba. Today, the JNF controls vast properties belonging to millions of Palestinians, developing them exclusively for persons of “Jewish nationality,” a concept established and promoted in the JNF’s charter to exclude all others.
