Mazin Qumsiyeh - Bethlehem environmentalism (29 Oct 2017) - leaflet D

“The one state solution is the only solution”.

This bold claim by Mazin Qumsiyeh, a professor at the University of Bethlehem in the Occupied West Bank, attracted about 80 students, members of the staff and others to attend this unique talk on the political situation in Palestine and to ask professor Mazin questions. It is certain that none of them regretted their decision.

Professor Mazin took a very interesting and original approach to the problem that Palestine is facing today. His main field of study being that of medicine, he decided to look at the country (and its people) as a doctor would look at his patient. He examined the symptoms, asked the patient about his history and after he had diagnosed the disease, he proposed a cure. Through this intuitive discourse, Professor Mazin found that the struggle that is taking place in Palestine is a colonial one, which can only be rightfully resolved by a single state solution in which all the citizens will enjoy equal rights, opportunities and freedoms. He goes deeper into the issue in his book titled Sharing the land of Canaan.

However, Professor Mazin is not a pure theorist. He has had first-hand experience with what the Israeli regime can do, as he was arrested more than 16 times and lost friends, who were killed while peacefully protesting against the discrimination of their people. Still, he has not fallen into despair and is doing everything that is in his power to make the life Palestinians more bearable, especially by founding (from his pocket) and running the Palestine Museum of Natural History. He is an inspiration to all of us who wish aid the Palestinian people.
